Driveway Fence Gate Kits

Choosing The Right Driveway Fence Gate Kits

If you're installing a new fence and it reaches across a driveway, a gate is going to be necessary if you want to keep your yard fully enclosed. There are several types of gates, however, depending on exactly what kind of fence you're installing. Let's look at a few of the options for driveway fence gate kits.

Whether you're installing a wooden fence, a wrought iron fence, a vinyl picket fence or some other style, you're probably going to be looking at a metal driveway gate. Because these gates open and close on a regular basis, metal is a much stronger and more durable option.

Driveway gates typically either swing open or slide open, and the style you prefer will depend on the layout of the land around the gate, and how much space you have. If the land has a grade on either side of the gate itself, a sliding gate isn't going to work very well, since they need flat space on either side to open.

There are various styles and sizes of driveway gate kits available, depending on your budget. For example, Home Depot sells the Mighty Mule driveway fence gate kits, and there are several models available. The Mighty Mule Sanibel G1612-KIT starts at roughly $1800, the St. Augustine G2512-KIT is about $2100 and the Biscayne G2714-KIT will set you back about $3000.

Each model has a different design and different sizes of gates, so you'll need to determine the width of your driveway as well as the style you prefer before making your decision.

There are other types of driveway gates that have more specific uses. The KidKusion Retractable Driveway Guard (about $90) is more functional than ornamental. It isn't particularly attractive, but it does a good job of what it's made for - keeping your kids from running beyond the end of your driveway and into traffic.

You can also get gates installed in protective fences, such as a deer fence, that can be opened to allow tractors, boats, RVs or other types of equipment to get in and out. These gates aren't designed for everyday use, and are usually opened and closed manually, but they let you get access through a protective fence when necessary.

Before deciding on any driveway gate kit, make sure you check your municipal bylaws and regulations. Some areas have ordinances that limit the size, design or style of fence that you can erect, and if you build something that breaks the rules you could be faced with fines or even having to take it down.
