Choosing The Right Pet Safe Fence
PetSafe makes a variety of fences that will help keep your dog or other pet contained, without having to build a visible fence. If you're looking for a solution to keep your pets safe, without affecting your landscape design, a pet safe fence is just what you need. Let's look at some of the options available.
PetSafe is known for their "invisible" fencing. The fence gets buried underground, around the perimeter of your yard or the area that you want to confine your pets to. Your dog or cat wears a special collar that either gives them a very small shock or plays a sound (or both) when they get too close to the underground fence. It doesn't take long for them to be trained to stay within that surrounding area.
They make a number of models at various price ranges, such as the PRF-3004W In-Ground Radio Fence ($190), the PRF-304W Deluxe In-Ground Fence ($230) and the PIG00-11007 In-Ground Cat Fence ($200). Each model has slightly different features, and the best option will depend on the size of the area you want to contain, the size and type of pet you have, and of course how much you want to spend.
PetSafe also has wireless fences, like the PIF-300 Wireless Containment System ($330). These are not really fences, since there are no wires to bury at all. They're wireless transmitters that cover an adjustable circular area up to 180 feet in diameter. The PIF-275 Receiver Collar works just like the underground fences - when your pet gets close to the outer boundaries, it activates the collar.
One of the big advantages of the wireless fences - aside from not having to do any kind of installation work at all - is that they're portable. You can take it with you on vacation or anywhere else, and create a contained area for your pet. And if you want to expand the area that the system covers, you can add one or more IF-100 wireless transmitters to expand the coverage.
A Pet Safe fence can be a lot easier to deal with that building a kennel or fencing in part of your yard. And if you've got a dog that can jump a reasonably sized fence, it's going to be more effective at keeping them inside, where they're safe and sound.
